ABOUT ABOUT

Road trip from America’s Birthplace to the Birthplace of Women’s Rights!

Getting there is more than half the fun as women driving race cars make an overnight round trip from Philadelphia to Seneca Falls, NY, site of the first Women’s Rights Convention.

Sign up to drive your own car and celebrate women's voting rights and other advancements over the past 100 years.

Led by women driving race cars, the rally will depart on Friday, October 16 from the Drexel University College of Medicine (DUCoM) and head north to Seneca Falls, NY for commemorative gatherings at key women’s rights sites. All participants will drive their own cars or ride as a passenger with a friend, if arranged in advance. We will not be arranging rides or providing buses, out of respect for social distancing. We will provide all meals on the trip, but participants should arrange their own overnight lodging in Seneca Falls. The rally will return to the DUCoM campus in Philadelphia on Saturday, October 17, for a finish line celebration.

For more information or to get involved with the road rally, contact Program Manager Elowyn Corby at [email protected].

Historic Connections

The connection between Philadelphia and Seneca Falls began in 1848. Lucretia Mott, a key organizer of the Women’s Rights Convention, made the journey from Philadelphia to Seneca Falls with her husband, James, the Convention’s chair. The Convention brought together 250 people committed to equality for all Americans, including the well-known African American abolitionist Frederick Douglass.

The history of Drexel University College of Medicine includes the world’s first medical school for women. DCUoM has preserved that history through its Institute of Women’s Health and Leadership (IWHL), which is located on the East Falls campus. That campus also is home to Vision 2020, a national coalition for women’s equality.

The acronym in the road rally’s name connects it to the original goals of Vision 2020: Honor the Past, Enrich the Present, Shape the Future.

Shape the future through shared leadership among women and men
Honor the suffragists who won American women’s right to vote
Enrich the opportunities of new generations of Americans through gender equality
